Powershift/Full Auto question

Featured Replies

Hi All

I'm looking at buying a 61 plate 2.0 diesel with 60k on the clock C-Max to replace my current manual one.  The seller states it's a automatic...  Is there anyway to tell whether it's a full auto or one of those rather troublesome Powersift boxes?  I've read loads of posts where people are trying to shift their motors for fear of the transmission dying which apparently is big money just to diagnose.

My question is How do i know what transmission is fitted?  Is there an easy way to identify it?  I've read the wet clutch is probably better than the dry one (whatever that means) and should i steer clear of a particular type?  Also is there anything i should be looking out for, weird noises, juddering etc?

Thanks, Monkey

Hi, afaik the powershift was the only auto used on that version. Can't comment on the detail I'm afraid  as when I had a C-Max a few years back I took the advice and stuck with a manual!😀

I own a 2016 powershift, had it 6months now and really happy with it ,smooth change. There is a manual change built in with the powershift. I have never used it as I wanted an auto.

To add to earlier post - wet means the clutch packs are bathed in oil, dry ones aren't. Generalizing, wet clutch boxes have tended to be fitted to vehicles with higher torque, dry ones are reckoned to be more efficient. The "wet" boxes (generalizing again) have tended to be less problematic but I know people who have had no problems with either type be it Ford or the similar VW DSG boxes, but they have owned them from new and been fastidious with maintenance.

Have you decided yet Rory ?
