This bumper just wont go on, the driver side fog light thats built into the bumper hits into the metal crashbar so i cant lift the bumper higher to attach it???? 😪

Any ideas??

I replaced my front bumper without any drama.Is it a MK 1 or MK 1.5?.I’ll have a look under mine just having breakfast👍

I think mk 1.5 its facelift version 2003. Just to add its my brothers car, he had an accident so we replaced the slam panel cos it was the only thing that was broken (and slightly bent bonnet) but now i just cant get the new bumper on. The only thing i can think of is maybe the body is out of shape so thats why its not going on. 

 

The passenger side goes on easily but the drivers side just wont go on its just stuck on the foglight 🙄

I reckon the front subframe has been pushed back.
Was the car assessed by a garage after the impact?
The car may possibly be a write off.

Nah we didnt take it to a garage. We just wanted to change bumper and hopefully get a year out of it before scrapping but now cant get the bumper on. Wish we would of left it now but he only had it for 2 days before crashing (it was mot'd thr day before we bought it) which is why ive tried to repair. Shame as it was a nice car for the age and he had it for only 2 days!!! 😔😢😡😠 (new driver)

Is the bumper catching on the subframe or new slam panel?
Maybe try refitting the slam panel?

The foglight on the bumper is catching on the metal crashbar and theres no slack to bend it up. The foglight is drivers side. The foglights are built into the bumper. 

 

I'll have to get him to try help me push the bumper later and maybe we can force it back on :S

 

If it was me I’d get a trusted garage to give an opinion.You never know could be a cheap fix if luck is on your side.Like you said looks like a nice motor👍

Update: We bought a cheap angle grinder today from screwfix and cut tiny part of the crash bar that was sticking into the fog light. Now the car is back together and hopefully my brother will get a year out of it!

Its not perfect by any means (esp the bumper paint job 😏😂😁) but it will have to do 🙂
