pourous engine

Featured Replies

hi  can anyone tell me if you can put oil stop leaks in  a pourous engine cheers

No, if it's genuinely porous the holes are too small for any stop leak to fill.  Which engine is it?  I haven't heard of anything modern going porous since the old VAG 2.0 PD heads...

Loads of the 1.6s have been going as well. I've had two myself. VW again. Unsurprisingly

Ah, I haven't seen about those, guess it's the later ones than Mk6 Golf?  1.6TDI is a pointless engine in these anyway...the 2.0 is only £30 tax and 55+mpg...don't understand why anyone buys the 1.6 with the same running costs but less power!

Because the 2.0 Lt is riddled with electrical issues [emoji23]. Also egr replacement which is super common on all new VW stuff. Takes me 8 hours to do. On a ramp. In a workshop. With all tool. With about 50 now under my belt. Fun times

They're hardly riddled with electrical issues...it's mainly EGR's and injectors, same as every other modern diesel lol.  The emissions fix really doesn't help the EGR though, you just have to try and find one that hasn't been done or hope the EGR fails within the TBM...my TBM ran out a year ago...  But having said that, every Ford I've bought has needed immediate repairs, and continual repairs/servicing after that...so far I've had the Golf 15 months and not spent a penny on it.  Still don't have any trust in it though, if trust is earnt I'm not quite sure how many months of no issues it takes to earn it...

Haha. After 2 utterly horrendous Mk3 Focus' there wasn't much other choice of cheap midsize hatches with £30 tax and all the spec and comfort I need, hence the Mk6 Golf.  You know my first venture away from 306's (after 3x 1.4s and a 1.8) was with a Mk4 Golf GT TDI 130 though right?  That was the car that made me realise diesel isn't quite as bad as I thought after learning to drive in a 1.4HDi 206 and then trying out my mates totally standard ph2 XUD 306...   130bhp and VNT boost was addictive...so I bought another mk4 in the colour and spec I wanted, remapped it for £40 and it made 180bhp, 380Nm with no supporting mods...then I blew the turbo so fitted a 150PD turbo and bigger IC, Allard EGR delete, decat pipe (cat was full of oil!) etc..back in the day I used to do mods lol!  But then I killed the DMF and finally the chocolate cam smashed a few of the lifters...and even then it still drove! Albeit slowly and noisily...  At that point I ended up back in a 306, my first HDi estate...and man did it feel like utter ***** after the mapped Golf.   Turned out the MAF on it was knackered so they weren't all quite as bad as that one, needless to say I stuck a cheap remap on that too...

So anyway, yes I now drive a totally standard, high mileage, previous cat N, Mk6 2.0 TDI 140 Match Bluemotion Tech...  Was only meant as a stop gap for a few months but I can't find anything better overall for how little it's worth!
