Wing Mirror dismantle and rebuild

Featured Replies

Hi,

Hoping someone can assist.

Someone hit and damaged my o/s wing mirror. I've got a second hand replacement  but am wondering if I can replace the damaged parts using the replacement unit.  I can replace the indicator bulb and outer painted cover but the black plastic internal body needs to be replaced. I've loosened this by removing two screws but it seems to be still attached somewhere by the motor.

Does anyone know if the plastic internal body can be removed and how? I've uploaded some pictures to show what I mean

Thanks in advance

Mike

You have to remove the door card then you will get to the big nut that hold the mirror on, most screws holding the door card are easy to find but you have to prise of the cover on the door handle to get to one of them

I know this is a quite old post but I have the same problem. I even disassembled the wing mirror from the door but I’m not able to remove the black trim. Any suggestion, please?

The door mirror is not a serviceable item. It is intended to be replaced as a complete assembly. The only thing that can be replaced as a separate item is the mirror glass.

Heat might help get the screw out. First spray with WD40 and then try holding the end of a soldering iron on the head of the screw for 5 minutes.

I'd just cut or snap it around the screw.  The rest of that piece is only destined for the bin anyway!

I have changed the frame of the window:

I used super glue to stick the screw to the rubi red trim:

I drill out the hole with 5mm drill and I run the two components epoxy glue to the hole.
