Franjie1
Can anyone tell me how easy it is to change an alternator please, I have replaced the battery but car has died again and when I turn on ignition I get a loud tick tick ticking, so i'm assuming this is alternator. If anyone has a link or a how-to on changing the alternator I will be grateful, Thanks in advance Angie :(

If anyone has a link or a how-to on changing the alternator I will be grateful, Thanks in advance Angie a loud tick tick ticking could mean the starter motor what type of battery is fitted? is it a lead acid or a calcium battery youre an 04 plate so you have smart charge and need a silver/calcium battery aka lead/calcium battery you cant fit lead acid batteries (despite what they muppets at Halfords tell you) as the smart charge will destroy them and they cause major issues with electrics. the problem is a lead acid will quickly have faulty cells as the smart charge uses a higher voltage that will fry most lead/acid batteries faulty cells will in turn mean theres not enough power to start the car and not enough power to the starter motor this would cause it to click when you try to start as it doesnt have enough power. i would advise having it properly diagnosed before changing the alternator i wouldnt have imagined you should be needing a new one so soon my sisters rover had the same we changed tghe starter to no avail a quick test by the garage revealed a faulty battery and when it wa replaced it was fine
