MK8 ST oil leak

Featured Replies

So I’ve heard a lot of people have had an oil leak with the new ST. Does anyone know where it comes from and if it’s the same on all the ST’s i.e. is there a faulty part that is causing this?

I've got the 140 same engine they put in the st line my oil leaks came from the head gasket, then oil pump, and just found another one, car not going in until two weeks tme so not sure what this one is not bad for nine months old lol hope yours isn't same it should still be under warranty you just don't expect that from a new car good luck 🤞

Fwiw, I had a launch Mk8 ST, literally the first few hundred which were built and I didn't have an issue in nearly 18months and 13k miles. It's not happening to a lot of people, but I have seen some reports. This engine has also been put in a lot of Focus over the last 18 months.

From the pics I've seen you can see evidence of oil either on top of the alternator bracket, or seeping between the block and head if you peer behind the intake.

First noticed oil by the high pressure fuel pump can only guess where it was coming from ,guy at Ford's keeps telling me that they have no problems with the ecoboost engine and there very reliable started to think mine was duff one of the production line just have to keep letting ford pay through warrenty let's hope they sort it before 2 year's ah

68 Plate Mk8 St-2.  same issue have an oil leak, seems slow but spreads out a fair bit as the oil is super thin, but can only really point my finger at the head gasket same side as alternator bracket, only thing im not sure is if its coming out of the Head or if its come from elswhere and worked its way round the seal, everywhere above it is dry. seems to be a common problem from what ive been hearing, im booked in undewr warrenty in a few weeks time so will not know for sure untll then. for reference iv done 14,000 miles, no other known issues other than leaking oil

19 Plate ST. Bought in July 2020 with 6500 miles. Noticed an oil leak shortly after purchase. Since then it has had the camshaft cover gasket replaced, but that didnt stop the oil leak, and so it went back in and had the rear crankshaft oil seal replaced at 8900 miles.

Ive just got it back from main Dealers and I think its still leaking oil as either they didnt clean the bottom of the engine or its still leaking. (I got it up on ramps at the first opportunity to check what the garage had done.)

My concern is that it either had 2 oil leaks or they completely misdiagnosed it initially. In fact they may have got in wrong again - time will tell.
