Compression Ignition

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

I have a Mondeo 2015 2.0 Diesel 130k on the clock. For about few weeks now, the EML shows on dashboard, but with no specific code whatsoever when read by OBD. Took the car to my local garage, but no codes neither on their scanner/diagnostic tool.

Once pressed the 'clear faults' button, the engine light dissapear, but will come up again 60-70 miles later.

The car does a mix of motorway/city drives daily.

Now, Ive downloaded another one of those obd readers from store play, and somehow it showed me the following:

'If no codes, means the fault is stored on ECU2 noncompliant, due to ABS, EPS errors'. And/or when reading the logbook, shows a compression ignition as cause of EML being on. Note that once I clear the codes as above expalined, the compression ignition error message will still be there, followed by 'EML light off'

Any ideea what needs to be done to fix this?

Compression ignition essentially just means 'diesel engine', it's not a fault diagnosis.  It might be suggesting that your app only works with petrol engines.

You need to get some Ford specific diagnostics on it, ideally Forscan (which you can download as an app) but if not then it'll have to be a Ford garage.

For a ford it is best to get a code reader (the thing you plug in the OBD port) with the extra switch on it to access extra stuff in Ford cars.

eg.

https://tunnelrat-electronics.fwscart.com/

on the same website if you click on links there is link to Forscan software. Forscan is fee for windows and about 6 quid for apple/android devices.

Every ford owner should have one of these code readers with Forscan.

In addition to what has been said above, some older and cheap software can only read the generic OBD11 codes and not the Ford specific ones. These Ford specific ones are more detailed and useful.

Also the fault code may have been set by a Module on the MS CAN bus, so you need hardware and software that can read both HS CAN and MS CAN. Some newer cars also have more than one HS CAN bus and I believe you need to have MS CAN capability to access these.

Beware, some adaptors that are advertised as being HS/MS CAN and FORScan compatible are not.

According to many of this Forums members the ones sold by tunnelrat (see isetta's post above) do work and are very good value for money. You also need FORScan as well.

Kudos to all who answered my issue.

I do have now the Forscan on my Win10 with the extended license, used with the ELM modified and has a switch too for HS-CAN and MS-CAN. Managed to clear the DTC codes (although there was none present). And as usual, once pressed the 'Clear' button, the EML is gone. Re-checked if any codes are on, and again nothing.

Now, I only need to wait to see if the light comes back. (another 50-60 miles drive).

Ill be back as soon I have an update.

Thank you, guys!
