Gear Stick Floppy, Can Move Vertically But NOT Horizontaly

Featured Replies

Hi i have a 59 plate petrol C-Max, its 1.6 or 1.8.

I have a weird problem as the gear stick seems really floppy and will go up and down but wont select 3rd or 4th. It also physically wont move left or right to select 1,2,5,R. I also seems to be stuck in first gear. I lifted the gaiter and the arms seem attached to the ball joints.

Looking for ideas on what the issue could be or how to diagnose. All tips and ideas welcome

I guess that you're sorted now after 11 days, but my 08 plate 1.8 had the same issue a few months ago, there's a plastic cover on the front of the engine where other end of the gearshift cables goes, it's possible that the cable ends have come off.  If you want any more information reply and I can help.
