Key Fob battery

Featured Replies

Key fob is showing low battery on dash board. Is it easy to change or is it a dealer job?  What type of battery is it?

Surprisingly, It tells you in the owners manual!

CR2450   Easy replacement .  See video

Cheap eBay batteries often have poor power output and therefore report as 'low battery' from new.  Better to pay a little more and buy from the high street or a Ford dealership

If the battery runs completly flat away from home can yo use the key inside the fob to get the car running?

Yes ... and I often do! No better place to find something out than the detailed and informative documentation supplied by the manufacturer of the product. :wink3:

From the owners manual ...

My key looks nothing like that. Mines is as in video posted by me  earlier.  This key looks similar to the one for my previous Kuga.  .

That's for my 2016 Edge. It doesn't have remote start, which I believe the new models have now!

Mines is a 2017  Sport   does not have remote start  but it has the bigger key unit.

Mine is 2017 Vignale - no remote start and has same key units as @eddieK

Thanks, This is the key fob we have, 2017 Edge with remote start.

Your newer 2017 fobs look like they'll survive the 'inadvertent' press in the pocket issue as the buttons look recessed!

I believe they changed the design of the passive key due to numerous reports of accidental door/window/tailgate opening. I’ve come out to my car several times to find the tailgate open. I no longer keep my key in my trouser pocket for that reason. Faraday pouch for me.

The excerpts from the owners manual posted above show what is obviously the latest version of the key. But I have a 2016 Focus Titanium, and the interior of the key is nothing like those illustrated. You squeeze the two sides and slide the lid with the Ford emblem off.  Inside is a steel key attachment - and nothing else...no little round battery, no space or connections for a battery.  It's a mystery to me.  Where is the battery?

If you don't have an owners manual you can access an online version of it via the Ford UK website.

You will need your VIN number to get a VIN Specific version of it.

 Could be this type ?

Got mine changed at the weekend. All working as should again.

Thanks, Eddiek. All is revealed!
