2011 1.6 ecoboost

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I don't yet own a Mondeo, but currently own a Skoda Octavia 1.8TSi.

Bought it a few weeks back and discovered it has a habit for oil, at 1L every 180 miles, bought from a dealer, who is offering a replacement vehicle. I have been a VAG owner for the last 12 years or so, with Skoda and SEAT, so know very little about Ford, other than my wife's old '96 Fiesta about 15 years ago.

The car available is apparently a 2011 Mondeo zetec with ecoboost stop start, done 107K & has service history (not sure if full or not yet, also not sure on MOT history as no sight of the reg) for £3750, (which is less than I paid for the Octavia)

Having been stung on the Octavia I am keen to try to avoid the same again. My other options currently are an 09 1.6 Focus zetec S with 97k for 3K, or a 14 plate Skoda Fabia SE 1.2 with 56k for £5250

Just wondering what the things to look out for are (if there are any biggies) what sort of life the engine has, is it near the end at 107K and the general opinion from owners before I take a look, if I had been this diligent when I bought the Octavia I would have saved myself a lot of hassle.

Thanks in advance

Good Evening,

I used to own a 2011 Ford Mondeo 1.6 Ecoboost.

I discovered that it was Under-Powered even if I tried to hold the revs. Made NO difference.

My car had to be recalled for clutch slip problem although my car was NOT affected.

The other recall was for the cooling system to be modified in case of Cylinder Head Cracking through Over Heating.

My car was modified to rectify this.

Ford are putting Small Engines with Turbo Chargers into some of their Big Cars.

Also after driving some distance you should allow the engine to idle for about 2 minutes to allow the Turbo to Cool Down!!

I now own a Mazda 3 Sport Nav 2.0 Auto WOW what a Car!

NO Turbo!!

Also have a look at YouTube

The 1.6 Litre Ecoboost Sounds like it's Diesel

On YouTube I came across a mechanic who fitted a brand new 1.6 Ecoboost Petrol engine and said this was normal.

I would consider a different car.

Hope this helps I have been in the Motor Trade for 24 years

Kind Regards

Alan

Hi Alan,

Thanks so much for the detailed reply, I was hoping for something good like that, I think based on what you’ve said, friends who have had the 1.6 eco have said and the mileage I’ll give it a miss. I think I’ll have to push for a refund from the dealer

Personally, I'd also give the 1.6 EB a miss on the MK4. To many things that CAN and often DO go wrong with that engine.
