2.0 Petrol Turbo - where can I get one?

Featured Replies

I've been enjoying my 2011 Mondeo 2.0l petrol for several years now but recently had the turbo seized and cannot for the life of me find a replacement. The usual trade places are all out of stock and I also tried to contact Ford direct to ask a) which turbo I need (there are 2 options) and b) where to get one from!

Anyone had a similar problem and resolved it?

Thanks

TC

Try putting your car's VIN into https://ford.7zap.com/en/car/ I've used it for a fair few bits over the years and it's quite good and giving build specific information.  It's give you the correct 7 digit Ford reference number for the part which should make it a lot easier to identify exactly which one you need.

Thanks - that site has proved very useful. I spoke to a specialist in turbo repairs and he did say that the part number kept changing as Ford fixed problems with the turbo.  I think my best course of action seems to be to get it off the vehicle and sent for repair, which includes a 24 month guarantee.

You're welcome mate, at least you get a 2 year warranty with the refurb so you'll have piece of mind going forward.

An update on this thread in case anyone has a similar problem in future..... sent the turbo off for refurb and when it came off the car, it wasn't seized (as I was told by two separate garages!) but had some damage which looked like it might have caused it to fail. Asked by turbochargers to then send the manifold and assorted pieces and when I was packing this up I could see that there were some loose bits in one of the exhaust ports, so that is most likely the cause. Hopefully it should just mean a new manifold and light refurb job on the turbo. Otherwise, it could cost me as much as the car is worth!  *sigh*

Fingers crossed mate, keep us posted.

So, it turns out that the manifold is flaking and did damage the turbo. New unit required but with part exchange of the old one, only £900 🥺

Plus whatever it ends up costing me to have had the unit taken off and then new one fitted. Given the fears about the gearbox as well, I think I may be looking to replace with *ahem* a car from a manufacturer over the water.
