Upgrading halogen lights to LED/xenon

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I'm currently looking at buying a mk5 mondeo.

I'll probably be going for the Titanium model, as they come with halogen lights, however I've currently got a insignia with xenon lights, and I don't want to downgrade the lights.

So my first question is how good are the halogen lights compared to xenons?

My second question is how can I upgrade them to xenons or LED headlights. I'd happily pay for it to be done via Ford, but I'm unsure if its even possible. And is there any benefit to having the halogen active headlights and getting an upgrade or would the whole unit need to be changed(this making the model irrelivent)

Any help is appreciated!

Ford won't do it for you and it's a huge amount of work/money to do it, assuming you could find a Ford independent garage willing to do it.  It's not just the headlight assembly, it's the wiring loom(s), possible additional electronics and reprogramming the car's software to work properly.

As a side note, I found the MK5 LED headlights to be really good, unfortunately the factory fit halogens are total dog 💩, even if you were to put massively overpowered (and illegal) bulb in, the actual amount of light thrown out is crap.  Personally I wouldn't consider a MK5 unless it had LED headlights, regardless of how good of a deal it might be.
