Edge rear end donking noise

Featured Replies

I have a 66 plate edge and it has recently acquired a donking noise from the rear end. It appears when it wants to so im unable to get it to do it all the time. It sound to me like its coming from the rear diff area. It will do it under light and heavy acceleration and seams to be in between gears. Had it on a ramp at work and all arms and bushes seam ok.  Totally stuck So any info would be great. Thanks

Could it be just fuel in tank moving around.  I get similar noises from rear,  depending what level the fuel in tank is at.  Quite common and had that with other vehicles too not just the Edge.

I thought this had come up before. Have you had the front or rear tyres changed. A mis-match between the tread depths on the front and rear tyres can produce a 'Clonk'.

It is the rear axle assembly re-adjusting to the different rotation distances between the front and rear axles.

I had a popping sound every time I pressed the accelerator pedal whilst moving. I was convinced it was coming from the rear and so was the ford technician. he removed the rear prop shaft and took it for a drive. still making the noise. after they put the diagnostic stethoscope on the car it turned out to be the front top mount suspension joint that was failing!. had that plus a few other bushes replaced under warranty and all tickety boo now.

Removing the rear prop shaft and driving it..................................

OMG! Sensor meltdown.
