2007 Mondeo Titanium X advice needed

Featured Replies

Hello guys, I recently bought a 2.0 duratorq titanium x. It is high mileage (160,000). I only paid £800 for it and I'm quite pleased so far. It has a full service history up until 130k. Has had timing belt and water pump done in a service with proof at 110k. I have receipts for a DPF done in December 2019, 10 months MOT, new front disks and pads, 2 droplinks and 2 new front tyres (all be it budgets) new battery.. It has a problem that I know about that is it goes into limp mode under hard acceleration, and juddering low revs. I thought this is probably the EGR full of ***** and it turns out I was right as I've unplugged it and it's driving absolutely perfect now. I've changed all filters, and oil. (***** me these things are hard to prime after fuel filter).

A couple of slight issues, I have pulled both the MAF and MAP sensors out and cleaned them with electrical contact cleaner, the MAP sensor had black sludge on so I'm assuming it's full of *****. Should I take it off and clean it or will it clear itself now I've stopped the EGR working?

Also having given it a full service, had the tracking done and replaced a couple of tyres, is there anything else preventative I should be doing? Sorry for waffling on a bit just looking for some advice.

I reckon I've bagged a bargain here and I'm happy to spend a bit of money on it as it should serve me as a good daily and i really enjoy how comfortable it is.

Cheers in advance guys.

These sensors are ok to clean but care is needed as they are delicate. Spraying with Electrical Contact Cleaner is the best way, but you may need to lightly wipe off any sludge with a cotton bud to ensure it is clean.

Once that is done, there are DPF Cleaner additives that can be added to the fuel tank which may help clean and keep it clean when the sludge is being expelled.

The other place to look is the air hoses to see the jubilee clips and tightened up, particularly the Diesel Turbo intake hose which can cause poor running or a lack of power otherwise.
