Keyfob

Featured Replies

I have done the 4 times thing in six seconds which programmed my new fob but now my original key which has always worked won't start the engine and the red light above the clock flashes constantly.

I have another blue chip key which does still start the engine but really laughs in the face of the whole idea of getting a new fob!

Have i unprogrammed my original key??

Someone please help!!!!!

Hi,

Just seen your post..

On your model of Focus [MK1] the central/remote locking are totaly separate from the imobiliser system, so programming a new fob should not have affected a keys ability to start the engine.

All keys have a transponder chip in them. This is recognised by the system and if it is the correct code it allows the car to be started.

The key that no longer works - is it one of the non fob keys with the blue dot on the end? Do you have two standard keys with blue dots?

you dont get two standard keys with blue dots unless you doint have remote locking which you do you should have the key with the blue dot which hides the transponder this is the master key and 1 remote keyfob with key this is all ford ever issued that i can gaurantee you the only fords that have 2 blue keys are the ones where one of the keys is either a replacement or a fake key Early Ford car keys use a red chip system. The transponder chip itself is actually made from clear glass and concealed in the head of the key. These keys are identifiable by a small red square on the top right corner of the key, hence the name! You may have also seen a key with a completely red head. This is the master key used in the earlier three key red systems.

Later models use a similar glass transponder blue chip system, again identifiable by a blue corner on the key.

The very latest keys still have a blue corner but contain a black carbon chip which is more advanced.

sounds like you programmed the fob fine but did you put youre old chip from the old fob into the new fob the chip in the new fob if it came with one is blank and you cannot programme this by doing what you have done as this chip is for the pats system if you did put the chip from the old fob into the new one then try turning it round the dark black bit of the chip sghould point down towards the key the coinstant flash means the system does not recognise the pats signal

My 2001 CL Estate came with two blue keys and no remote locking so no fob, but any way..

From Melle1's post it is not clear whether he/she was trying to add another fob or replace the original. If the intention was to add a new fob the transponder chip did not need to be touched as up to 8 keys can be coded to the system as stated on page 75 of the owners handbook.

All my fobs have the chip this way round:

As Melle1 has not responded since the original post then we might never know what actually happened...

yeah thats the correct way the dull blackish bit pointing down im confused a bit as to what he did as well if he coded the key then the fob its poaaible it hasnt been done right you can do 8 keys but the transponder is for the pats system so im assuming he hasnt coded it correctly 2 different methods 1 is to go from position 0-2 4 times in 6 seconds till you here the noise with the original blue ky then switch back to position 0 you then have a few seconds to put the new key in and turn to position 2 then back to 0 it should be coded another way is the same but its position 1 to position 2 by the sound of it the key hasnt coded
