Rear 'Dash' cam blocking DAB signal

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I've got a camera mounted to my rear window but it interferes (blocks) the DAB radio signal - i know that's where the aerial is.

I've added ferrite cores all along the length of the power lead but as long as the camera is powered on, there's no DAB.

Was wondering if anyone on here also has a rear cam but has managed to find a spot for it on the glass where it doesn't effect the radio signal?

Cheers!

Ditto. I have nextbase rear camera and gave same problem. I've tried cable through both cable rubbers, across gap, using ferrite rings all to no effect. I've even wrapped cables in foil. Worse case it blocks weak signals and strong signals eg BBC Radio.

Bizarrely I have Nextbase rear cam in Mk4 mounted almost centrally below rear brake light. Works OK without any problems and I also had it in previous Mk3 without any trouble. How have you routed cable to rear. Mine goes from windscreen along LHS above door openings and then up hatch opening under rubber seal.

The aerial on the Mk3 and Mk4 is external.

On the Kuga it's "internal".

I missed that point.

If it was me i would try running the cameras with the rear camera and as much of the cable as possible outside the vehicle. Then assuming radio is not affected you could try moving the rear camera and cable around into different locations to see where and when it's affected to try and find a workable position for  it.

Just want to ask a possible daft question, so apologies up front.

whilst you’re routing the cables through the car, what is the power source? Is it hard wired or are you using the 12v charger point.

there is a known issue with DAB signal being interrupted by interference from some 12v charger plug in adapters. My wife’s VW Sharan has hard wired dashcams front and rear and no issues with DAB, but if we plug a phone charger in the DAB signal drops in and out and make it impossible to listen to.

I'm using the genuine nextbase adapter into socket hardwired to fuse 85.

As soon as it's powered when the rear cable comes close to the DAB units in top of tailgate it causes issues. Currently have it mounted on dog guard so no where near hatch.

I can only assume from that it's the rear camera or cable that's immiting noise

Mine is doing exactly the same, I have Blackvue front and rear, I have the ferrite suppressors on the main power lead and the feed to the rear camera, both before and after the rubber tailgate grommet. Neither have made any difference, still no DAB.

Thanks for your responses. I know its been a while but thought I'd update for anyone with the same issue.

I ran the wire from the camera along the headliner trim and also tried it by going along under the carpet and up through the boot.

I used several ferrite cores along the way and tried to make sure the cable wasn't touching other cables or metal.

None of this worked. The camera I've got is the HDC300 from Halfords with the rear camera adapter. The fact is, If I put that camera within a foot of the rear window it blocks the signal. I've tried everything.

One time I managed to get it to work by sticking it to some plastic trim on the side of the boot after meticulously moving it a fraction of an inch at a time to see if it interfered with the signal. I found a position that worked, tucked the cable away but then when I shut my boot it blocked the signal!! Could have smashed the thing up righ there and then tbh.

Basically Ive given up with it now. The front one works fine though

So a warning to anyone with a Kuga that was thinking of getting that kit. Don't bother!

The front camera is hardwired to the fuse box and the rear cam is powered from the front cam.

I've recently fitted Next base 322 with rear camera, same issue. Contacted Next base ran harness along headlining & floorpan, had camera left side, middle & right side, only get interference with camera in its holder (right near screen). Come to conclusion it can only be cameras proximity to screen. Have notified Next base again Will update when they come back to me.
