Hi everyone

I have just got a 2007 mk4 1.8 tdci mondeo titanium X from my father in law..

It is certainly a bit of a mess ( he is a carpenter).. but its fully history only 70K miles.

Had cambelt, water pump, alignment and full service about 1500 miles ago..( but that was august last year)

It has sat on his drive since January.

I went and picked it up last night, other than needing a jump to start it,  and  It had 0 miles in the fuel tank, enough to get it to the petrol station, put 30 litres of fresh diesel in it (needed to jump as battery  was knackered

drove well 40 miles home, few faults on the way, but that was down to the battery being completely flat

It had 0 miles in the fuel tank, enough to get it to the petrol station, put 30 litres of fresh diesel in

I got it a new battery today, put it on, started perfect idling for a minute, turned the steering wheel and the car died,

Now it just won't start, it will occasionally fire to life for about 2 seconds then die..

Fuel filter? best way to diagnose what this is.

I need to code read it tomorrow see if there are any codes.

I am used to petrol engines done all sorts of rebuilding do all my own work etc but diesels i'm not used to!

any help, pointers would be great thanks!!!

I have the same car, some issues but getting to know it better, I've had mine for just over two years. The 1.8 diesel is also known as the 'Lynx', and is said to be unbreakable if maintained properly. Your issue sounds like one I had after changing the fuel filter. I would suggest that you change yours. Warning: make very sure that the big round washer is put on first, i.e. under the top lip of the filter, so that it rests on the main fixed body of the housing. Easy way, pop the filter bottom into the washer and slide it up, fill the housing with diesel soaking the filter then screw down the top. If you have a small funnel or a syringe fill the pipe that goes to the main pump (left front half way down the engine block). Many people put that washer on the top of the filter causing air lock issues and bad consumption figures as a result. Best of luck, let us know how you get on. Oh total time 30 mins, if that.
