1.0 EcoBoost 101hp ECOnetic

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

My friend is selling his 2012 B-Max, 1.0 Ecoboost with 101hp and I want to buy it for a good price.

The car is in mint condition with 40k miles.

My problem is the 3 cyl engine with the 101 hp and 170nm torque.

Is this small power enough for a car with 1.2 tons? Can you make an overtake or you can feel that the car is lazy and he doesn't want to run?

A current 5 door Fiesta with the same engine is around 1150kg, so the B-Max is only a little heavier.

I've never owned one, but my dealer had one as a courtesy car and it seemed fine for normal driving, if not quite as "nippy" as the Fiesta.

Have a look at what Autocar magazine had to say:

You should be able to overtake cyclists...downhill with a tail wind...

If you're regularly having to overtake tractors on 60mph B roads, I'd suggest it won't be the best engine choice for that.

Don't know about that, Tom - these cyclists don't half shift downhill!

But yeah, back road overtakes need a surprising amount of oomph to get past quickly and safely, so agree not the best choice if you're regularly doing that sort of driving.

Should be fine around town and rolling along dual carriageways, etc, though.

I had one as a courtesy car, it's fine for most uses not as nippy as the fiesta but not far off, handles well, fuel consumption okish coped well enough with A roads and dual carriageway, can't comment on town driving as I didn't do any, well only just a half mile to get to the A9,
