KA exhaust fractured at catalytic converter: repairable, or totally new system?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

The speed humps in our street have broken off the exhaust pipe from the catalytic converter of Mrs N's KA this evening (photos attached).  It looks pretty horribly rusted to me - is this something we're better off just getting done at a fast fit (where I guess they will replace the whole thing for £££) or is it actually repairable? I don't want to drive the car far, there's a KF about 1 mile from us.

Yeah, that's a bit beyond repair!

Looks like it's a centre pipe rather than a cat though?  Much cheaper to replace if so.

Yes where the centre pipe meets the catalytic converter is where I meant.  I just hope KF don't say I need to replace the whole thing, from where it leaves the engine to where it meets fresh air!

Isn't that the backbox or am I losing my bearings with those pics?  I'm sure the cat is right at the front on these, then you've got a centre pipe, then a backbox.  The only expensive part is the cat.

No you're right, it's the rear part of the exhaust, I always assumed that box was the catalytic converter.  Now I just have to hope I can find a garage that can fix it today.
