Windscreen Wipers will not stop even with ignition off

Featured Replies

My windscreen wipers are working but will not stop even with the ignition turned off. Have tried disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting, they start again and won't stop. Have tried disconnecting the rain sensor under the rear view mirror - they still don't stop

Any thoughts anybody?

On modern cars it’s usually some complicated electrical problem but it could be old school simplicity like faulty contacts inside the switch. I would suggest disconnecting the switch from the loom and see if it stops to narrow down where the fault is

Hi

Many thanks and old school it is

Removed the fuse from the fuse box for 1 1/2 hours, put it back in - hey presto, sorted!

Actually thinking about it, what I said about disconnecting switch, it don’t think it would have been switch as that wouldn’t explain why wipers stayed on when key turned off. I should have said perhaps it’s faulty self parking mechanism in the wiper motor(if they still work in same way they did 30 years ago). So we don’t really know what the chances of it doing same thing again are

Great, thanks for you thoughts

I'll wait and see if it does it again and think about the motor
