FOCUS RADIO CODING DILEMMA

Featured Replies

Hello  chums!  my 2013 FOCUS ECOBOOST 1.0 ltr NAVIGATOR  (estate)   radio packed up,  intend to replace with unit from ebay,

BUT .......to find the code,   is the code meant to match the s/n of the old head unit,   or do I use the s/n  of the replacement unit?

which is meant to match which,

The codes are specific to the radio serial.

If buying from Ebay, make sure that the replacement comes complete with proper code! It's a PIA if it doesn't, and there are numerous listings, so buy carefully.

Mk3 Focus/Mk7 Fiesta onwards don't have radio codes.

Good decision from Ford, the only people ever truly stumped by 'radio codes' were legitimate owners! LOL

My understanding is that they do have codes but a copy of these is stored in the car's system (in the cluster maybe?) and they must match for the radio to work. I wonder what happens with an aftermarket radio. I'm not planning on changing mine, just curious. I use my car to get from A to B, not as an entertainment venue and have a hi-fi in my home for that purpose .

I'm not sure how that would work for exactly the reason the OP needs a new one? My old Mk2 went ***** up, so I bought a direct replacement from Ebay which came with a new code. If the Mk3 also needed a replacement, how would you ever get it to work if the built in 'new radio' code didn't match your original car?

Hello   chums.   thanks for all your replies,  the ebay seller I was going for has cancelled,  fair enough!   Back to square one,  Everyone says no code on 2013 Focus,

that's a help  and fits with the old  1-6    or   2-6  button  trick not having any effect!    BUT,   how do I establish things like part number compatibility,  there are many "head units" on  sale,

(mostly Lithuania for some reason)   but they all say buyer responsible for matching,  so how can I be sure to match?   where do I find this info?    YouTube clips make the swap look easy but this assumes matching/suitable unit I suppose.   Any help/advice   appreciated,    Ford list a  new unit around £1200.00        aaaaaah!

I've read this too...but it's not true.  In reality you can just plug in and play a used unit from another car or an aftermarket unit.

The only thing to check is whether your unit is pre-sync or not.  And of course, whether it has certain options such as nav etc.

which bit of the radio has packed up? the acm, dispkay or front controls

Hello   iantt,     symptoms  are just this,    first thing I noticed,  it stopped auto syncing with my phone as soon as i got in the car, like it used to,  puzzled, thought it was my phone, tried to sync again,  wouldn't connect.  ???    next tried to put  a simple journey on   satnav it would not even start up," not installed"  just telling me needed a "card"   when it has been working fine all time previously,     through all this,  the radio would work and the screen looked normal,  only thing being when I exited the car it would switch off,   whereas before I would leave the radio on and it would be where I left it when I returned.      FINALLY,     radio  now switches itself off after a few  minutes,   and  only after repeated pressing of the on/off  switch it lights up and comes back on for a few minutes   before going off again.

Sorry Tom but I think you're wrong this time. The attached scan is from the Ford owner's manual for my Mk3. My radio is pre-Sync, maybe that's the difference.

I didn't quite get it right regarding the code but essentially the system does check the radio against the car.

Oh dear, "please see your dealer..." and bring your wallet with you as we won't be doing anything for nothing! 🤣

That's just some propaganda to get you to go to the dealer.

I've done it on a 2012 model btw, no security message appeared.

Hello   again   chums.    update,   helpful  internet seller,  confirms Mk3 Focus don't have codes,  but best to match the correct part No.  to be sure you get all the intended services back, SO,  dear  friends,   to go back to my original  question,   where do I find  the part No.?    there is no mention in the owners handbook,  any help or  suggestions please.

regards

Part numbers are printed on a sticker that is located on the back of the particular part. The ACM, FCDIM and FDIM do all have an individual part number.

To determine which part numbers you need you have to remove the audio system from the car. Another possibility is to obtain the hardware numbers from Etis but this requires an active/authorized user account as an independent user/garage.
