Possible 2008 1.8 Petrol Idle Control Valve Issue

Featured Replies

Hi All

I recently purchased a late 2008 Focus 1.8 petrol in Titanium trim and have noticed a slight issue. It's got 57K on the clock, been serviced every year and had new sparks at 52K.

A couple of times I've notice the revs drop below idle when I've come to a stop / and coming to a stop and have the car in neutral. As soon as I put the clutch peddle down, the revs drop to below idle, usually around 600 which makes it feel and sound like it's going to stall. Literally a second later it returns to normal.

Just now, I got the car warm, stuck the AC, radio, and lights on, held the revs at 3,000 for a few seconds and took my foot off the gas. The revs went down to around 550/600 before going back to idle.

Is this a sign the Idle Control Valve is on its way out? There are no other issue except the idle seems a little high at around 800rpm, but economy is what I expect, no misfires, and performance is cool too.
