Mk2.5 Who's upgraded their audio

Featured Replies

My car has the original 6000CD head unit, which is fine but lacks a bit of modernity. So I was thinking of swapping it out for something a bit more up to date- satnav, bluetooth audio etc. I found a couple on amazon around £150-200, which seems pretty good but of unknown quality. They do however fit the existing aperture which always looks neater.

What I'd like is inbuilt satnav, radio (DAB nice to have but not essential) bluetooth phone and music, reverse camera input would also be good (as it's an estate with a towbar). I currently use the 3.5mm jack for music but I guess with bluetooth that's redundant.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Can't help with aftermarket recommendations, but to add in case not considered, I've got a 2011 sport mk2.5 which has built in oem FX sat nav. Might pick one up second hand?

Can still get ford sd card updates for maps too. Not most modern or touchscreen or anything but it maybe gives more OEM look? No reverse camera or dab though but then car has reverse sensors anyway and I don't listen to music while driving! Only thing you'd be missing really is the next turn instruction on the taller red binnacle screen but I don't find really need that anyway.

Only issue I've had with it isn't even really with the unit but the original gps aerial in base of the roof aerial failing (common fault I think) so added an internal gps aerial stuck to top of windscreen near dashcam (with cabling all tucked into headlining and a-pillar etc it looks neat too), got the replacement gps receiver off eBay few years ago for about £5 I think and all still working perfectly touch wood.  You're maybe looking for something a bit more modern but just in case hadn't considered.

That's a good option actually. So there should already be a GPS antenna in the car? If I have to find random Ford-only small parts to make it work then it's not such an attractive option.

No your roof aerial probably only would have had the GPS base if it had satnav originally. But these fail due to water ingress anyway.

This is a picture of the GPS receiver I fitted and of trim cover popped off which shows where screws are for getting behind unit.

Standard gps aerial and would need to get one for any sat nav you go for anyway.

I've gone full aftermarket and created a few guides,

Have replaced the centre arm rest 12v socket with a usb & HDMi input for an Amazon fire stick, 7" pioneer headunit, reverse camera, TV tuner, two class D JL audio amplifiers a 10" sub and 10" roof monitor.

Has become very useful now with covid19 I take my lunch breaks in the car; little table for the steering wheel and something to watch on the TV 👍 really good.

Netflix and chill

All very discreet and nothing on show.

That's an extensive setup and very very impressive. Personally always been a fan of original ford OEM look in my car's but adding little improvements where can which this site is great for,(like the famous focus 2.5 footwell lights and recently discovered can activate DRLs in the focus utilising the standard headlights etc - and when get Kuga have found out if go for an older one with sync2 the satnav can be activated etc)  but I have to say that's one hell of an impressive setup in your Focus, far more extensive than any OEM options yet still discreet and if didn't know better could be oem, just a top model or something, maybe a focus MK2.5 vignale you've got a case for there!

And best bit is the guide for anyone that wants the same themselves,it's all there. 👍

With having a little girl I wanted something like that setup for car journeys so she’s occupied but I’m stuck between the fold down monitor and the xtrons replacement head rests. The only issue with the head rests is, the mk3 ST headrest is an odd shape and if I swapped them for the xtrons it would look really weird. I was half tempted to DIY it and rip them apart and got the units in to the oem head rests.
