xtrons head unit

Featured Replies

i installed my extrons head unit today after having it 2 years i finally got around to it.

i found it very tight getting all the wires boxes etc in behind the unit i managed to move bits about and get it screwed in but the suround for the dash doesnt sit as it should it slightly bulges out.

im wondering what other people have done to get it all to fit ?

there is a plastic bar at the back i was thinking of doing away with but not sure its the way to go any ideas please

also it only comes on with ignition and not when ignition is off ? as originall head unit did

When i fitted mine it was a PITA feeding all the wires back whilst inserting the unit. I ended up placing it on the foam it came wrapped in and "inserting" the gear knob inside it lol. The can bus decoder got shoved over the right hand side out of the way so it wasn't taking up room behind.

I never had any issues with the fascia bulging though, mine fit perfectly as if it was a factory fit.

Mine also turns on and off with the ignition, perhaps yours has a delay or waits till you open the door? I'd take a look in the settings perhaps.

When I added an aftermarket Sony I would have to turn the key one notch to turn it on if that's any help.

with original sony dab unit i could turn it on with out ignition being on

Must be the trait of it being oem. I didn't keep the original long enough to test that but TBH you get used to it and the first notch before everything lights up doesn't cause problems.

All aftermarket headunits will only work with the ignition,

If you temporarily remove the centre air vents; you can fit your hand inside to move the bulk of cables around while you push the headunit in with your other hand,

I wouldn't cut any brackets, there's no need; I've got a HDMi, ten RCA plugs and the loom at the rear of my pioneer headunit for TV tuner, fire TV stick, and three sets of outputs to amplifiers, all fits fine when you guide everything around using your hand through the vent,

I Tried to explain this to a guy on here recently and he told me the vents were nothing to do with the headunit install 😂

I've shown how to take out the vents in this guide here; you need two small flat head screwdriver; and a torch to see the tabs inside the vent,

I've an awfully funny feeling, 'that guy' was me LOL Having removed my head unit several times for diagnostic and replacement purposes, I still insist that on my Mk2, the air vents have nothing to do with a head unit install...

it doesnt but allows you to get your hand in to move wires around so you can fit the stereo in better
