1.6 EcoBoost a bit smoky

Featured Replies

So the 1.6 EcoBoost Focus we have has always been a bit white smoky for about 15 seconds on cold startup (which can be quite bad) but then it clears and doesn’t do it whilst driving. Took it in to the garage (because the ABS sensor was on the blink) and the garage took a look. They’re saying it could be burning oil in the cylinder which I don’t think to be the case. It suffers no performance issues, the oil level hasn’t decreased either. This is a garage who are very good and I trust, but I don’t agree with them on this one. Any ideas what could be wrong or is it just normal on the 1.6 engine.

Hi, oil doesn't burn white so they are definitely wrong! The white smoke is normal, I remember when I had my ST with the 1.6 ecoboost in it and that smoked a lot in the winter. I wouldn't worry especially if all your levels don't drop. 👌

Thanks, that’s what I thought! I would’ve expected to see blue smoke if it was oil, and the internet suggests that this is normal behaviour for the engine.
