MK2 Brakes

Featured Replies

I've a 2008 2 litre TDCI Hatch. the front brakes need changing. i measured them at 280 mm but europarts are telling me it should be 300mm?

Can anyone shed some light on what i should be buying?

Thanks in advance.

cheers.

I'd measure them again!  They should be 300mm, but if they're only 280mm, that's what you'll need to replace them with.

Remember that the ones your replacing won't be the discs fitted from factory and the previous owner could've fit the wrong ones. Just check and make sure the brake pad is sitting right on the docs and not overhanging by 20mm.

Fair point!  :g:

It would be 10mm overhang, the other 10mm would be the opposite side of the disc.  Still, 10mm overhang would be easily noticeable wouldn't it? I'd like to hope anyone competent enough to change brakes would notice it.

oh yeah it would be 10mm either side, oops. If the brakes were fitted by some donkey at Halfords, KwikFit or places of that nature then they probably wouldn't notice it, no. 😂

Thanks lads. I'm gonna buy the 300mm. ford themselves even said it should be 300mm.

They were changed at 125000 when i bought it, 170k on them now. my mechanic said they need to go.

But if you have 280mm on there and the pads are sitting correctly on disc then you can’t fit 300mm discs as the Caliper won’t go back on as disc would stick out too much. I think calliper is the same but I think the caliper bracket is different, I think, not 100 per cent certain.
