Kuga MK2 issues when towing uphill

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have been towing with my Kuga Auto 2.0 Diesel AWD 163 bhp for the last 12 months with no issues, this last trip was a nightmare, whenever going uphill the traction control light would come on, the car would go into limp mode, I would have to drop down the gears to get it going again but this was only temporary as would do it again, I have also had transmission error and engine malfunction light, its absolutely fine on the flat and also when not towing, have checked out the van brakes and they are fine as 1st thought these may have been binding and putting load on th car, any ideas please.

Thanks Keith

You need to get the error code read to get some idea of what it is.

My friend has a 2010 AWD model with the 2.0 163 bhp engine, not sure if it's exactly the same engine/set up though. His car was failing to do a dpf regen and go in to limp mode, weirdly it also gave an error on the rear diff (Haldex unit...again not sure if it's the same set up on your model). After a bit of investigating it seemed common that the dpf pressure sensor goes faulty and it indeed was giving a strange reading, luckily I had the old one from my Mondeo as I had replaced mine (but didn't solve my dpf problem) swapped them over and went for a drive. The dpf did a regen and the error for the diff went too. We concluded that because the car went in to limp mode with reduced power, it would stop the rear diff from engaging and hence the error.

However this may not be your problem, and that's why you need to get the error codes read.

Hi,

Came across you when when looking for problem I have

I have a 2019 2.0lt Kuga Auto AWD Power-shift.  When under load towing, long inclines, I get very similar results.  Loss of power, gears not changing, revving but no momentum and revs capping at 3,000.  Had it back to the garage but as there is not fault code recorded and they cant replicate the situation they have found no  fault. I videoed the situation occurring when towing it for the garage but still no resolution.  Car drives great off tow but just this weekend I towed for the first time since October, this time just a trailer not fully laden, and it happened within about 20 miles.

Interested if you got you problem resolved and if others are having a similar experience and if so did you get a resolution.

Regards

William
