Catalytic converter

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Just after some advice please, i'm picking up a brand new ford focus ST X tomorrow

In my area there is currently a high rise in the theft of converters - I know it's mainly hybrid cars (mine's the petrol version) but i'd rather be safe then sorry

I've heard some manufactures are putting the converter within the engine, could anyone tell me where the converter is on the new focus's please and is it easily accessible for thieves?

Thank you in advance :)

ford focus ST-line X

Fixed it for you, there's a big difference between ST and ST-Line :P.

You didn't say which engine you have, but I believe the cat's are on the downpipe sections no matter what engine. The downpipe isn't hidden up in the engine bay like a cat straight after the exhaust manifold (aka mani-cat). You can't have this on a turbo car so the downpipe is next closest.

In short, yes they can steal it pretty easily with an electric saw, however there's nothing you can do to prevent it and there's millions of other cars around the country that can also have the cat stolen just as easily so the chance of it being yours is very low.

With a modern car with keyless entry etc, it's much easier for thieves to just drive the car away than mess around cutting the cat out. I'd be more worried about that aha.

Lower it on airbags...good luck to any thieves getting a jack under there!

I see some places are fitting steel plates to the underside to deter them.
