My first project, advice welcome!

Featured Replies

Hi all, I hope you are all well amongst all this COVID stuff.

I have purchased my first ever project car, and I have a whole list of things to do as below, if you have any advice it would be greatly appreciated. I will be doing a journal of what I’ve done.

Car - Focus Mk2/2.5? - 1.8 Duratec HE Manual Zetec - 92k Miles

Work to do!

Slight noise from rear suspension over light bumps, like a loose parcel shelf sound.

New Parcel shelf, ford badge for front.

New plates

12v Socket in front not working?

Clutch isn’t slipping at all but quite high on the pedal?

Oil Change and Filters

Dents all over that id like to try and fix myself.

Double din head unit with apple CarPlay.

Scratches all over id like to sort.

New fog light fascia.

New wing mirror as broken.

New air filter and pipe from air box to engine as slightly perishing.

If I put the car into neutral and come to a stop it almost stalls and revs high quickly and then is fine, it doesn’t do it if I slow down through the gears.

Any help on the above would be greatly appreciated.

Aaron

Welcome,

It's a mk2 pre-face-lift.

Slight noise from rear suspension over light bumps, like a loose parcel shelf sound.= check the rear swaybar links they stick out at the bottom you can't miss them the rubber deteriorates and knocks like somebody chapping underneath.

12v Socket in front not working? = check the fuse you will find F39 under the passenger footwell.

Clutch isn’t slipping at all but quite high on the pedal? = by design you get used to it.

If I put the car into neutral and come to a stop it almost stalls and revs high quickly and then is fine, it doesn’t do it if I slow down through the gearsas you say pipes are perished so air leaks will cause problems also check the pcv valve and crankcase pipe.

You should be able to source most of the perished parts from the scrappy or ebay. Be sure to check out the pinned posts at the top of the forum there is plenty Info on your model.

Fixed the 12v, just a fuse!

Replaced intake pipe picture attached! Drives a fair amount better now!

Need to check sway bar links now.
