1.0 EcoBoost Differential Leak

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Anyone able to possibly diagnose this leak on a 2016 1.0 ecoboost Focuz Zetec S.
Its obviously been leaking for a while, but had not noticed as the engine heat shield was absorbing the liquid.

Is this a leak from a differential to the drive shaft?

If this just a seal what kind of repair cost could I be expecting?

Thanks All.

If it’s gear oil, I’d say likely gearbox output seal.

Is the oil filter tight on looks too black to be gearbox oil and see the filter is right above it. Check your oil level before going down the other route.

I don’t believe it’s engine oil as it’s quite light in colour.
I’ve got a closer look and this seems to be the issue.
Is this the differential housing?
The passenger side is bone dry.

What is covered in oil in the second picture is the intermediate shaft bearing... This doesn't have oil in it. Focus' are common for the driveshaft seals (outer diff seals) leaking which is what you have taken a picture of in the last post but I've never seen one leak so bad it ends up all the way down to the bearing. Is it possible to view the seal on the driver's side?

Hi.
I think it may have been leaking for a while and the seal might have completely failed.
Because of the carpeted heat shield I had not seen any marks or drips of oil on my driveway.
However after a trip of the motor way it seems the oil has slung everywhere, all over the engine sump, shafts and even some on the tyres.
The picture on my second post is of the drivers side. The passenger side and passenger shafts are completely dry.
thanks.
