EU type approval - still needed now not in EU?

Featured Replies

Another thread prompted me to ask this, now we've left the EU, do we still need EU type approval on accessories like headlight bulbs etc?

As far as I'm aware we're keeping most of the EU laws until reviewed/changed.I suspect many car parts will retain the same legislation because of cross border travel and/or international markets.

Every bit of cheap plastic that comes out of China has a CE mark on it so that probably won't change, but take from that what you will.

CE mark and EU type approval are two different matters.

"By affixing the CE marking to a product, a manufacturer declares that the product meets all the legal requirements for CE marking and can be sold throughout the EEA."

" Under the WVTA (Whole Vehicle Type-Approval System), a manufacturer can obtain certification for a vehicle type in one EU country and market it EU-wide without further tests. The certification is issued by a type-approval authority and the tests are carried out by the designated technical services."
