1.5 Ecoboost engine tap at start up

Featured Replies

Hello, I have a 2018 Kuga Titanium 1.5 Ecoboost 150 manual with 12k on the clock. I’ve noticed an intermittent tapping noise, almost like noisy hydraulic tappets intermittently on start up after the car has been sitting for more than 10-15 minutes. This only lasts a second and then stops and otherwise drives fine. My gut instinct tells me oil isn’t getting to everywhere immediately on start up, hence the tapping noise. The dealer who did a very coursery listen when I had the clutch slip detection recall done suggested it was fuel injectors but I’m not convinced.

Anyone any thoughts?

Many thanks!

Mine is exactly same engineers say perfectly normal! But it is a worrying noise

if u do a search on YouTube you will find a Kuga and a focus with the 1.5 engine doing exactly same.
