If I understand your question, if you have simply changed the 'case', maybe for cosmetic reasons (?) the actual original case houses the immobiliser chip - without it, you ain't going nowhere. If the new case does have a chip built in, it will need reprogrammed, and someone will be along soon to tell you how to do that...

Yeah I recently bought the car and the case was about to fall to pieces so I’ve simply just changed cases and yeah to quote you stephenford. I ain’t going nowhere. Ha ha. Would I need a auto locksmith to reprogram it?

From your profile, I see it's a 2009 Focus, and from memory, I think this can be programmed by a series of key twists with original key in ignition to put it in 'program mode', then some key button pressing. I'm afraid I don't know the exact sequence, but like I said, I'm sure someone intelligent will be along soon LOL

🤣 Thanks for the help buddy. Hopefully someone can let me know the sequence. I do have the original none flip key with no buttons on it, just a plain key on its own.

Chances are your new case won't have come with a new immobiliser chip. Do you not still have the old case to swap the chip over?

Yeah I have the old case. But can’t seem to see where the immobiliser chip is!

Can you post a photo of your actual key (old and new), so we're singing off the same hymn sheet? Ford changes it's key design frequently, and it would just ensure that any further advice is relevant. I hope your new key simply needs programmed, otherwise it's a real bollox getting the original chip out, and moving it to new one. (you'll need Stanley blades, a steady hand, and a glue gun, and fingers crossed nothing breaks!). If you bought your new key online, it maybe states in the description that it has a chip fitted but will need matched programming?

Yeah I think I know where the chip is and it’s proving to be an absolute tw*t to get out. Ha ha

Certainly sounds like you found it LOL

Yeah think I will give the old locksmith a shout tomorrow. Ha ha. Can see this getting hit with a hammer.
thanks for the help guys

👍👍👍

The immobiliser chip will be of two different designs-

The glass one on a fixed blade key will be in a rubber sleeve that protrudes from the fob and is covered by the key blade base.
The carbon one will be mounted in roughly the same location on a fixed blade key but cemented between the two halves of the key blade base on a flip type key.

Yeah it’s the carbon one and seems like it doesn’t want to come out from where it is. So will definitely be ringing an auto locksmith as it looks rather fragile 🤣

mmm... like I thought, Stanley blades and heat guns, bl**dy nuisance!

  • Author

Yep definitely leave it to the professionals 🤣🤣

thanks for the advice guys. 👍👍
