Is a Heater matrix covered on warranty?

Featured Replies

Hi, does anyone know if a heater matrix is covered on ford warranty?  Dreading the thought if I have to pay for it.
it’s a 2012 focus

Have you not long purchases the car?  (If so, you'll need to look at your policy from the dealer you bought it from)

If not, you're well outside of Ford's 3 year warranty (assuming your signature is correct) and you're on your own.

It's the risk you take driving older cars unfortunately...

Having said that, I think you can claim on insurance for repairs that you can't afford.  It's not just for crash damage.

I don’t think so. I had this exact issue on my previous 2012 Focus and tried to get Ford to cover the cost because quite frankly they know full well it’s a design fault (the clips next to the clutch pedal) and owners shouldn’t be lumbered with a bill the thick end of a grand for something they created to make the manufacturing process easier. Either way, they flat out refused and it cost be £850 at a Ford dealer to have the work done (Winford Ford, just south of Bristol). It’s a big labour intensive job with front seats, doors and dash all removed. The dealer I quoted there I can recommend though if you’re local. The matrix ford then fit has this issue designed out with no join in the pipes to leak.

You'd have thought Ford would've learnt from their previous mistakes! The pipes going to the heater matrix were renowned for leaking on the early MK2 Focus' due to a joint part way down. The later models had a 1-piece pipe.

I too have suffered the dreaded 'heater matrix' leak on my 2005 Mk2. Luckily 'my guy' managed to manipulate himself under the dash to repair the very small seal that had failed. The removal of doors/dash etc had been discussed with me. I thought he was taking the p*ss but apparently the doors sometimes need to come off in order to properly take out the dash as that is the sequence they are put together in manufacture. Yes, the bean counters at Ford should sometimes consider the legacy owners of their products!
