Ford Focus MK2 1.6Ti-VCT - PATS, EEC communication issue

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have looked everywhere (5th page on Google) but still no luck.

I have Focus MK2 1.6 Ti-VCT with 55reg that died in the fly, all lights on dashboard and the car just died. Stopped on the side of the road an no reaction on key, just PATS error 1:6 - PATS EEC communication problem.

Checked all fuses all fine so got a recovery, after few hours the car started to crank but battery died.

After reading half of the internet I've send out the cluster to repair as it was the most common issue. Cluster came back from fix, happy I've put it back to car just to see that the issue hasn't disappeared

Error code 1:6 still there, car not cranking, so again, checked fuses, put new ones and still nothing

After a week of work I went back to focus on the morning Sunday, put the key in, bang, fuel pump worked, no error, I've plugged in PC to remove faults with for scan. It told me to turn off the ignition and back on. And the error is there again with U1900 on ABS and IC with PCM error to read DTC's

12v on ECU is all the time there

Any ideas?

didn't search hard enough

sounds like two separate faults

not cranking nothing wrong is a mad one... turn the engine over half a turn somehow... try again bet its OK !!!  its the starter jammed in the ring gear dead common

then a wiring issue maybe ?

Thanks Botus,

I had a look over the subject you send and today I will do some more testing.

Okay, done a bit of work

CAN test - 60ohms on OBD2, without IC there is no continuity, plug by plug by unplugging and got 120ohms on each so I guess there is continuity all the time

All grounding wires cleaned, all fuses changed

I've noticed on screenshot from my error on ABS that info "Malfunction Indicator Lamp is On for this DTC" but for U1900 on IC that says "Off"

Checked all fuses for ABS, all good, wiring seems ok same with grounding.

Think I'll send PCM to check to make sure it's not this

Also, there is plenty of harness's that are just not plugged in, is that normal? Would these wires be ready for more features in the car?

P.S.

This will be most likely not related but I've got problem with rear doors, not operating at all and have errors:

PDM - B1235-60 - Electric window motor position feedback failure

DFDM - same as above + B2477-60 - Module Configuration Failure
