Ford Focus interior lighting issues

Featured Replies

Hi all,

ive a Ford Focus estate tdci 2008 mk 2.5 and the interior lights have stopped working back and front.

Tested power and bulbs to both all ok.

Lights don’t illuminate with passenger or driver door open or by buttons on lights

what do I do next ?

Thanks all

Have u checked the door switches pop out ok?

The doors switches are like hardish round rubber inserts . A bit of movement when pushing . Glovebox light not working either which makes me think can’t be door switches

is the boot light working ok ? i would say check the fuse box, is it normal bulbs or led bulbs you have fitted

You say power is running normally. If so, the bulbs should be lit. If the doors are shut, and you can measure 12v live, bulb should be on (though you shouldn't be able to get a live feed as door switch should stop the power), if doors are open, and you measure 12v, bulb should be lit. I'm very confused!

When doors are are open lights do not come on even using switch inside manually.

Testing with multi meter power running to each bulb holder front and back.

bulbs ok too

In my last car (a Fiat Panda), the interior lights were run off the canbus and the negative was the switched circuit not the positive. How are you actually testing with the meter? Is there 0v at the bulb terminals with the doors shut, but 12v at the terminals with the door open? If so then that should (normally) illuminate the bulb(s). Have you got any other bulbs to try?

Where are you grounding the meter while testing

My old man tested it . Going to have a look again tomorrow as getting car back from cleaned dpf .
The interior lights were working before.

The only reason I noticed the interior lighting not working as I was online and found Footwell lighting bulb holders with wires connected so went to euro parts for some nice white bulbs to find they didn’t work to notice none of interior lighting was working either

The common factor in the faults you've described is the passenger junction box (fuse box or GEM). According to the diagrams in the Haynes manual both the supply and ground connections to the lighting, plus the door switches (and the glovebox light) go through it. The Haynes diagrams for the Mk2.5 are, admittedly, described as "typical" which infers specific differences between models but nevertheless I think it would be worth checking, if you haven't already, the cleanliness and security of the connectors at the PJB. There have been cases in the recent past where members have found connectors not fully seated, possibly due to being hit by passengers feet and also corrosion from leaks from the cabin ventilation system.
