Faulty locking

Hello I have a mk2 focus (2006). My central locking with my key fob has always been intermittent. But then about 2 months ago it stopped working. When i presses the unlock button you can hear it trying to open within the door but it just stays locked. 
So now I have to manually unlock the doors and put the key straight into the ignition(if I don’t the alarm goes off). Then when I’m in the car if I turn the ignition off the doors all lock and I can’t open unless i turn the ignition off. 
An d for the first time today I couldn’t even open the doors doing that so I had to roll the window down and put the key into the external lock whilst still in the car. Any ideas of what could be wrong
