Radio/ Sat Nav help

Featured Replies

Hey, just looking to see if anyone can help me here.

I've got a 2010 focus and whenever my radio/sat navy system is connected, it causes the back-light on the LCD screen above the steering wheel to stay on and drains my battery.

I've had to disconnect the whole radio so that this doesn't happen but it'd be really nice to drive with some music again.

Not sure if anyone has had a similar problem or if anyone would know if its a fault with the radio or something to do with the actual car?

Thanks

Can you clarify - the backlight on your odometer, have you checked that it stays on permanently when the key is taken out of the ignition? If your car is working fine, the light WILL stay on, but should turn itself off after anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes. (No one really knows why, they 'all' do it LOL). If there is a genuine fault, it may stay on permanently. Even still, the tiny LED that powers the backlight is unlikely to drain a battery if it does remain on overnight...

I assume that the Sat nav audio system is the Travelpilot FX.

The instrument cluster display is switched by CANbus activity. The display is illuminated when the CANbus system is active and switches off when the CANbus system enters sleep mode. The instrument cluster display not switching off indicates that the CANbus system remains active. This will drain the battery in approxumately 12 to 24 Hours.

The Travelpilot FX is well known to for electronic problems that cause the CANbus network to remain active. Repair of the Travelpilot FX by a specialist will cost approximately €300,-. A brand new travelpilot FX from Ford current costs between €1800,- and €2300,- (depending on the exact version of the Travelpilot FX).

Crikey!! Sometimes I'm glad at owning a cr*ppy old Focus, when I replaced my faulty head unit, I got one on Ebay for £20!
