1.6tdci Over Filled Oil

Featured Replies

I  changed my oil the other day and filled it up with what i thought was the right amount saw a you tube video and i am sure they said 4.5 litres of 5w-30 oil  it was about 2 cm above the top fill mark, being lazy i thought that it would not hurt being just a bit over filled took it for a drive for about 5 miles all seemed fine, i  then checked my manual to see how much oil the 1,6 tdci takes and it said 3.85 litres i took 600ml out with a suction pump and as you can see on the picture it is only showing 3 quarters full. Anyone know how much oil the 1.6 tdci actually takes to fill and have i damaged the engine by over filling it ( the oil was covering all of the yellow part of the dipstick )

Defo 3.85 litres. Short term in wont cause a problem but long term it could blow seals. Always check the oil on a cold engine and level surface.
