Mk2 focus 1.6 LX Side Repeater Replacement

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I'm a proud owner of an old but vgc Mk2 Focus 2006 1.6LX.

The cover on the passenger side repeater is missing and I am replacing them. No big deal.

However I can't seem to get the little beggars out... I have seen a couple of posts which says I can slide them towards the front end of the car, and they should pop out.

Looks and sounds simple. But they refuse to move.

Am I missing a simple trick? Or do I really have to have the wheel off and remove the wheel lining, remove the insulation, and go up through from there?

Any pointers will be very greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone 😁

It's not really a 'sliding' motion, you're just pushing against a spring at one end so it's a small slide across and pull out at the same time.

I can't remember if these are moulded to only fit one way, so it might be worth trying to push backwards in case some has put it back in wrong.

Don't forget, it may not have been removed in 14 years so may be stuck in with years of dirt, grime and wax!  Prepare to lose some nails...

Thanks for the info my friend!

I'll have a little poke around at it in a little bit on my next break.

My only worry is if I get too heavy handed with it I'll break something. I have done that multiple times in the past.

I'm an ex-demolition man, and breaking things happens almost accidentally most days! 🤣

Thanks again!

If I have no luck I'll post up a reply.

When I did sone years back I used a teaspoon handle wrapped in a cloth.
Iirc you need to push only one way as the plastic clip is on one end and a hook on the other end.
As you can't guarantee which way round the lens is mounted just push one way and see which direction has a bit of movement in it.

Spot on.

Thanks for the info gents, I can confirm with a little bit of loosening and "persuasion" I managed to get them both free and able to pop out.

Next thing I have to suss is the wiring. Which I'll be frank... I'm hopeless with, I'm hoping it's simple plug and play. My aftermarket ones look to have a different connection perhaps.

I'll have a bash and see what I can sort out.

Thanks again everyone 😊

Most aftermarkel units just have a length of wire with a t10 bulb type connector that should just push into the original bulb holder in place of the bulb.
If the replacement is led then be sure to check the unit works before re-fitting as most led units are polarity specific and aftermarket units can (in my experience) be a beggar to remove once fitted as they tend to be a tighter fit.

Thanks very much for the pointers I'll have a go now and see how I get on. 👍

Curious, you replacing like with like, or one of those new fangled sequential indicators? I've been looking at one of them myself but wanted someone else to see what they were like first LOL

I had smoked led ones on my mk2 and they were well tidy.

I can see how a single LED can be, 'well tidy', but was wondering if the newer sequential ones were a bit too much like Knight Rider, but then again, I loved KITT in that show so don't think it would bother me LOL

Replaced with the Smoked aftermarket, only £21 for the pair. Really pleased with them.

Look great, work great.

Much better than the OEM with plastic missing. That looked awful.

And the other side 👌

Are they single flash LEDs?
