Engine wouldn't turn off

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

My wife has a 2010 Focus Titanium 1.6 (i think) petrol manual, only done about 30k

Last week when she returned from work the start/stop button wouldn't work so she couldn't turn the engine off and i work 2 hours from home! Long story short she took it to a ford garage and they pulled a fuse.

She left it with them, they put the diagnostics on it and of course couldn't find anything wrong and the problem didn't repeat again for them (of course)

There was an "I" light on the dash panel but other than that no indication of what was wrong.

Has anyone experienced the same? and if so what was the remedy?

If it happens again what would be the best fuse to pull 1. engine or interior fuse box 2. which fuse to stop the engine and 3. most importantly cause NO damage!!

I enclose a pic of the engine fuse box

All replies are much appreciated

Cheers

Simon

It's probably easier to just stall the engine than mess around with fuses. Neither is ideal, you really need to get it looked it soonish.

If you insist on removing a fuse every time then I'd pull the one for the fuel pump personally

Yes, pressing and holding down the start/stop button (10-20 seconds) should stop the engine

Try that next time but I seem to recall it took a few attempts with the gear lever (Automatic) in different positions or me pressing the brake pedal at the same time.

Quite a scary moment as I was miles away from home with a dodgy instrument cluster fault (bad solder joints) that was causing the engine malfunction light to come on

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies

What an idiot i am its an auto!!

will try both ideas

Stay safe

You can stall an auto.  Pull the intake pipe off the airbox and cover it with some thick material (for example, picnic blanket or hoody...depending on your age lol).  Easier on cars with an open ended intake but on the Focus it originally enters below the grill.

If you want to pull a safe fuse, pull the fuel pump fuse.  You'd have to check which number that is in the handbook.
