Intermittent grind feeling (not sound) through clutch when changing gear

Featured Replies

Hi all,

First time poster here and looking for some advice.

I recent bought a 2012 Ford Focus 1.6 Titanium with only 8,500 miles on the clock. Initially had issues straight out of the gate including first morning of owning the vehicle the battery went flat, this was recharged by the dealership and then a wheel sensor went on day 2 (also booked in and fixed by the dealership).

Move on a few weeks and now I have an issue where as I am pressing down on the clutch to change gears I am getting a grinding sensation through the clutch at the same RPM that the engine is giving off (or so it seems). Just to add that my right foot is completely clear of the accelerator during the change but during a test a slight tap of accelerator exacerbates the grinding sensation through the clutch. There are no issues with the smoothness of the gear changing, no noises and no slipping, just this grinding feeling.

The issue seems to have no specific RPM that it occurs as I have had this occur in very slow moving traffic and also when changing 4th to 5th gear at 35/50 mph. It seems to occur less when its started from cold and more prominent the longer the car has been running.

Interestingly the sensation doesn't occur when changing down a gear whilst braking.

Has anyone come across this kind of thing before? It might be something completely normal for this model but it is a new issue that I didn't experience the first few weeks of owning the car and following on from a less than stellar start of owning the car it might just be me overreacting!

Advice would be much appreciated!

Nathan
