Pretty much similar to the focus issue if it's in the wheel well.

I had one of the first of the latest Fiesta range - late noughties - with a few of the early model headaches, including water getting into the boot, and finishing up initially in the spare wheel well, and later soaking the carpet right through to behind the front seats.  It drove me mad!!

Initially, I thought it was getting past the grommets that secure the pins on the rear light fittings. Punching them through and fitting new ones cured the problem for a couple of years, but then the leaks - both sides - returned. Replacing the grommets again didn't work this time. Applied silicone sealant around the aperture where the light units are connected, but no good. Applied more sealant to try to divert water running down from above the hatchback door away from the apertures in the panel, again to no avail.

It took me months of bailing out the back of the car last winter (before the virus struck) to dry out the car so that I didn't have to mop all surfaces whenever I wanted to use the car (!!!), but succeeded eventually. Still the leaks came in. I even bought a car cover to try to stop the car from drowning.

I never did find the source, and I sold the car in part exchange, just to be rid. Happier now. I had the car from new for more than 10 years, and apart from that one bugbear, I was very pleased with it, especially the economy and performance of the 1600 TDCi engine. Didn't like the low profile tyres and alloy rims - subject to too much road noise, and the rims frequently getting damaged on roadside kerbs.

Ford will NEVER admit to a design fault, which is what the cause of the leaks must have been.

Good luck with finding the source of the leak - I'm sure it's somewhere around the rim of the hatchback door, but I didn't find it, to my eternal frustration.
