Focus mk2 Passenger airbag replacement

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

My 2006, mk2 Focus (ghia, 1.6) recently failed its MOT because of the airbag warning light was on. The garage ran a diagnostics check and apparently it is not a problem with any of the sensors or the computer and the actual airbag needs to be replaced on the passenger side.

The only problem is that to buy a new airbag direct from Ford and to have it fitted is going to cost £922, which is probably about the cost of the car itself.

I'm hoping to buy a secondhand airbag and to get someone to fit it. I seem to have found a few mk2 passenger airbags being sold on Ebay, but I'm not 100% sure that they will fit (can't post the links on the forum apparently).

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Also, does anyone know how difficult it is to actually replace the airbag? There are some tutorials on Youtube for the mk1, and some for the mk2 driver airbag, but I can't find anything about the mk2 passenger airbag. After looking at the passenger side dashboard, it also looks like it is going to be tricky to actually get at the old one.

Any advice welcome!

Ed
