Ford focus 1.6 tdci turbo resonator

Featured Replies

So I've been down low on power and constant limp mode. When I opened the bonnet there was oil everywhere. On further Inspection I narrowed it down to this thing that has a hole in it.IMG-20201111-WA0001.thumb.jpeg.44cc8de7110c12b979bc1336005f08f7.jpeg

Can somebody point me in the direction of were to purchase this part in the picture. Or a work around. I've heard people say this is just to silence the turbo whistle and can just use another pipe in place of it .

Yes it's just labelled as an air duct resonator hose. That's the intake pipe going to the intercooler (so should contain air and nothing else lol). It's little concerning that you said so much oil was inside.

I believe the correct part number for your car is 1465155, however could also be 1465156 (I couldn't tell the difference from the descriptions). Ford will ask around £100 for a brand new one, I'd imagine there's loads of cheaper alternatives on eBay.

Interested to know how you'd bodge a standard pipe in place of that one?

Aftermarket ones are available on ebay for around £30.

Also just notices this jubilee clip has come off the intake pipe.

The hole in the resonator looks perfectly round. How could it fail like that? I would expect a crack or an odd shaped hole, not a perfect circle with a ridge round the edge of it. Has something punched or melted through it from underneath?

The oil breather is broken as well, directly above that...   Another area for oil spray to come from.

I noticed that too.  I think there must have been a plug there from the injection moulding process that was the weak point that finally blew under boost. It may already be an aftermarket part as I don't remember seeing a circle there on the originals.

The oil breather? Is that the bit of the intake that goes directly into the engine, without going through the turbo? The plastic clips on that part are snapped in my car, previous owner has it ziptied back on in a MacGyver fashion. Maybe that would explain the oil in my turbo?

OP: That's a really weird looking hole. Like has been said, looks like more like something punched or melted through that. I would definitely get that jubilee clip sorted or replaced though, you don't want unfiltered air going into that turbo.

Yeah, they're all broken these days.  Need unclipping to do an oil change but aren't robust enough to cope with heat cycles followed by regular unclips.

It works in the opposite way to how you're thinking though.  It sucks crankcase gasses away from the engine and into the intake - it will inevitably contain some oil vapour which ends up in the turbo and boost pipes.

Ah, good to know! I was bricking it thinking that my turbo was on the way out because it had oil in it (found today that that oil going all the way through into the IC pipes too). Turbo has little play and compressor looks fine though so I think it's good. I drive my car quite hard so wouldn't be surprised if the oil was making vapour. Is there anything that can be done to stop this happening? I'm worried about a buildup of oil in the IC.

OP, about your jubilee issue, I found a similar thing today in mine. I think it has been overtighted in the past which has led the rubber tubing that slides on the turbo intake to tear between the two little ridges that hold the jubilee clip in place (hope that makes sense?) In my case, I was able to sort of push the two bits together and tighten it down enough to hold it on. I've attached some pics to show this (including the oil). I would make sure that's on snug, probably where the oil is leaking into the rest of the engine bay.

I unfortunately can't find that specific part on Eurocarparts. but probably not the best place to look. Might be worth calling your local Ford garage to ask for the part number/see if they can order one in for you?
