mk4 mondeo not starting

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I have a 2007 mk4 mondeo titanium x. My problem is i have no ignition whatsoever its the push button start i press it and nothing happens. Its not the battery as ive tested that also dont think its the key as i have tried both fobs. Any advice would be great.

That would happen if the immobiliser is still enabled. Is there a flashing led to show when the immobiliser is on? And does it go out when you put the key in the ignition?

I dont see any lights flashing also its the convers+ message on the screen thats all that happens. Its keyless start so i dont have an actual key only a fob.

Well, Reading this thread:

It could be the clutch switch... 🤔

Also, seen this?

Looking at that it might be the clutch switch.when i press start button i dont even get radio headlights or anything so dont think its the starter. The weird part is i used the car earlier today and no problems whatsoever then went to go an hour later and now this.

You can quickly check that cable shown in the youtube vid. Can you do stuff yourself? Im guessing you're not in the RAC or AA

Ill check tomorrow. Yeah i can do most mechanical jobs but when it comes to electrics im lost 😂

Does pushing the button while NOT touching the clutch have any effect on anything? does the dash display change? does it turn on/off power to the windows etc?

Faulty BCM is also a possibility. The push button sends a signal to the BCM to actually start the car, so if the wiring is broken or the BCM is faulty it can cause strange starting symptoms. On a previous car I had a BCM fault that meant the car wouldn't start unless I tried starting the car immediately after closing the driver's door. Made restarting the car after a stall annoying.

I'd try and eliminate other issues including the clutch switch first. BCM faults can be expensive.

Just to let everyone know i discovered it was the wire going from the push button to the ECU that was at fault.

good to see a resolution!... all too often threads just end abruptly with no fix.
