Exhaust

Featured Replies

So I've noticed that one of my exhaust tips seemed to be blocked by a plate inside the pipe,is there any reason for this?I've been searching all night/morning and can't seem to figure out why its like that?any help appreciated thanks.

How far inside the pipe is the blockage, is is a baffle in the silencer that may have failed? Not a good thing to have your exhaust blocked by anything as the gases that are meant to escape, may cause engine damage or even allowing gases to find their way into the car cabin. Of course, there could be a much more sensible reason - someone sensible will be along soon!

One tip is probably fake just for aesthetics...  Which engine is it and is the exhaust standard?

Its the 1.6 zetec s and its got to be an aftermarket exhaust as every other car I've seen of the same year/model dont have the same exhaust.i can put my hand in the tip and touch the block plate..no deeper then 5 inches

Ok, well I'm still going to stick with my above suggestion.  One's just for looks.  Leaving both open could actually reduce power on a small, NA engine.  The exhaust gasses cool to soon, while they're still in the pipes, causing a restriction themselves.  You want hot gasses to remain hot as they exit the tip so the high pressure 'pulls' them out into the low pressure atmosphere.

So I'm assuming that the back box will be designed for the fake tip too?

It might be, depends who made the exhaust and if it's fully custom or if it's been built out of pre-made parts.  Some pictures would be helpful to clarify.
