2009 Focus Zetec Engine Malfunction

Featured Replies

I'm looking for some help with the issue I'm having. 4 days ago I dropped son to school and when I got back in car to come home I went to turn car on and it came up "engine malfunction". I immediately turned it off. Then tried a few seconds later. It was completely fine. Drove the 10miles to work and all was fine. The next day drove to work absolutely fine. But on the way home I was doing 70mph and it came up again with "acceleration reduced". Car still worked but acceleration was slow to react. Got home fine. The next day I went to start car and there was nothing! Just the engine malfunction message. Tried 3 times to start car and had no "turn over" sound at all. Got out checked basics like water oil etc, all fine. Got back in to try again and it started!!! No message at all. Drove a few miles and back and all fine. Today I drove 10miles to work fine. Bit on way home message came up again. Run the code reader and a few codes come up. Does anyone know what this could be or has experienced before please? Many thanks 🙏

I think anyone on here will give this advice first. Download Forscan onto a laptop. Buy A tunnel rats elm config cable and sync it to the laptop. This will give you a very strong platform for checking your car out. Forscan is free software and is very close to Ford dealership quality diagnostics. I do have a tunnel rats elm cable in the classified section on here. But I am happy to give it to you fro free if you are happy to pay the P&P.

As for your issues. The only time I saw so many errors codes on ym car was when I buggered up ironiclly with a cheap elm cable which messed up the imoboliser. I know that is not what has happened to your car but I do know that an issue with the imboliser could be what could cause so many fault codes.
