Empty relay slots on mk2 focus

Featured Replies

Hello everyone hope you’re all well, I’m new to this website so sorry if I’ve put this in the wrong place.

Just wondering I’ve got a empty relay slot on the auxiliary fuse box, would it be possible to put my own relay in there and use that for a air horn relay if I connect all the wires up underneath ?
sorry if this doesn’t make sense.

Hi,

Welcome to the forums, most air horn kits come with there own waterproof relay kit, there are a few advantages to keeping away from the original relay box; especially the one in the engine bay because they have a common problem of leaking allowing water to bridge connections causing the horn and wipers as well as indicators to activate at random; even when the car is parked unattended.

Im on here ten years now and have created some guides for the MK2.5 focus which most of them also work on the MK2 if interested:

Hello Lenny

Thank you for your help it’s greatly appreciated, thought I would ask before anything bad happens. So would it be alright tugged away safe in the engine bay so it still looks tidy but just away from the original fuses/relay ?

ohh some of them will defiantly come in handy, run out of projects for gardening so started on the car instead haha. Thank you again

The aftermarket relay will be fine, a bit of PVC tape over it as an extra precaution, there's space inside the rear of the battery box if you wanted to house it inside something; but there's no real requirement.

The gardening is also very rewarding and therapeutic however I sincerely hope you don't ever plant the focus 😅

Ohh I’ll check that out have a look at where I can get it in thank you, it’s only me just wanting to make it look a little neater under the bonnet.

haha that won’t ever happen if it dies I’ll just replace the engine and use the old one as a coffee table (clarksons idea there) 😂
