Noisy wheel bearing ??

Featured Replies

I'm fairly sure that one of the wheel bearings on my 2017 1.0 St-line is just beginning to start rumbling, but can't be sure which one. It is most obvious at about 25 mph on a smooth road surface. The car has only done 24k and is still covered under extended warranty (I think).

Has anyone encountered a wheel bearing issue on the MK 3.5, and if so, was it front or rear and if it is a front one, are they still pressed in these days ??

Get the car in the air and give each wheel a spin and wiggle from side to side. It should be fairly obvious which one is bad.

Could be worn tyres

Yeah, meant to add that that was what I was going to do when I got chance, so I've finally just had chance to do that and all of them sound fine, no rumbling noises at all.

Tyres are all fine....rears are 4.5 mm and fronts are 6mm.

I guess I will just have to let it develop for a while and then try the above check again ??

Sometimes you can feel a slightly worn bearing by resting your hand on the coil spring and rotating the wheel with the car off the ground. Its a small feeling but one side will sometimes feel different to the other.
